EMT Training Courses
Learn About EMT Training Courses at New Britain EMS Academy
We have been providing this entry-level training for students since 2006. Since this time we have graduated more than 2000 EMT students. On average we conduct eight (8) EMT programs yearly. We offer a variety of scheduling options including day & evening offerings in the fall, spring and summer. We also run our very popular high performance session in the summer. Our program consists of 180+ hours of didactic, lab and simulation experience. Our EMT programs have access to the Simulation Center at our Academy on a regular basis. We are the only EMS training institution in Connecticut with this level of Human Simulation technology. As part of your training you will spend 18 hours on ride along internships with the EMTs and Paramedics at New Britain EMS and our partner agencies. This is the added benefit of taking your training with an EMS institution. We have a strong track record of hiring our Academy graduates (both EMT and Paramedic). We do this because we train each student as if they could be a future employee. In other words, we give you all we can to ensure you will graduate a clinically competent, compassionate, workforce ready EMT.

The EMT National Continued Competency Program (NCCP) requires a total of 40 hours of continuing education to renew. The model requires continuing education in three components: (1) a national component, (2) a local/state component, and (3) an individual component. Broken down as follows:
- National Component = 20 hours (up to 7 distributive) of approved continuing education.
- Local/state component = 10 hours (Up to 7 hours distributive) CAPCE or state approved content
- Individual component = 10 hours (Up to 10 distributive) CAPCE or state approved
