Educational Affiliation

The Central Connecticut Paramedic Education Program Consortium has undergone a credit assessment review by Charter Oak State College. Those wishing to attend Charter Oak to matriculate into a degree program will receive course credit for our courses upon completion of our program.

Charter Oak State College is Connecticut’s public online college offering master’s programs, bachelor’s and associate degree programs, and certificate programs for adults. The college was established in 1973 by the Connecticut legislature and is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, and by the Connecticut Board of Governors for Higher Education.

The college offers degree completion programs in a number of high-demand fields including Business, Health Care, Public Safety, Cyber Security and more. Students can complete degrees in many majors and concentrations through the exclusive use of affordable and accelerated online courses offered by the college. In other cases, majors and concentrations may be completed by combining Charter Oak’s courses and other sources of credit.

The college awards credit for:

• Most credits earned at other regionally-accredited institutions including up to 87 credits from two-year colleges.
• Standardized tests (CLEP, DSST)
• Military training and occupation evaluated by ACE
• Corporate and agency training programs evaluated by ACE/NCCRS
• Connecticut Credit Assessment Program (CCAP)
• Portfolio Assessment
• Faculty evaluated licenses and certifications

The Central Connecticut Paramedic Education Program Consortium has undergone the Ct Credit Assessment Program through Charter Oak and upon successful completion of our program, those wishing to pursue a degree through Charter Oak State College will be awarded the following credits for classes taken with our program:

Credits Available for those graduating April 2018 through March 2023

• Anatomy and Physiology for the Paramedic I: 4 credits, lower division level
• Anatomy and Physiology for the Paramedic II: 4 credits, lower division level
• Foundations in Paramedicine I: 6 credits, lower division level
• Foundations in Paramedicine II: 6 credits, lower division level
• Foundations in Paramedicine III: 6 credits, upper division level
• Paramedic Clinical Rotations: 6 credits, upper division level
• Paramedic Field Internship: 8 credits, upper division level

Credits Available for those graduated January 2012 through March 2018

• Anatomy and Physiology for the Paramedic I: 12 credits, lower division level
• Anatomy and Physiology for the Paramedic II: 10 credits, lower division level
• Evaluation and Treatment of Trauma for the Paramedic: 3 credits, lower division level
• Clinical Internship: 4 credits, lower division level
• Field Internship: 4 credits, lower division level

Clinical Affiliation

In the clinical phase, students spend a minimum of 288 hours rotating through affiliated hospitals and other partner clinical areas that may include emergency department, anesthesiology, labor and delivery, intensive care unit, respiratory care, etc. Students function on a one to one basis under direct supervision of a nurse, mid-level practitioner or physician.

Field Affiliation

During the field internship phase, students are assigned to an active affiliate paramedic unit for a minimum of 360 hours distributed over 12 weeks. While in this rotation, students will perform within the full scope of practice of a Paramedic, under the direct supervision of at least one licensed paramedic possessing at least two years field experience.
