Learn About EMT Training Courses at New Britain EMS Academy

Initial Course Description

We have been providing this entry-level training for students since 2006. Since this time we have graduated more than 2000 EMT students. On average we conduct eight (8) EMT programs yearly.  We offer a variety of scheduling options including day & evening offerings in the fall, spring and summer. We also run our very popular high performance session in the summer. Our program consists of 180+ hours of didactic, lab and simulation experience. Our EMT programs have access to the Simulation Center at our Academy on a regular basis. We are the only EMS training institution in Connecticut with this level of Human Simulation technology. As part of your training you will spend 18 hours on ride along internships with the EMTs and Paramedics at New Britain EMS and our partner agencies. This is the added benefit of taking your training with an EMS institution. We have a strong track record of hiring our Academy graduates (both EMT and Paramedic). We do this because we train each student as if they could be a future employee. In other words, we give you all we can to ensure you will graduate a clinically competent, compassionate, workforce ready EMT.

Our price is an ALL INCLUSIVE pricing structure ensuring that you receive the best value available in the greater Hartford area when it comes to EMT training. We do have a payment plan available to assist our students.  Our program cost includes:

Our High Performance EMT program is our most popular offering. This class sells out each year. We call this a high performance class because it requires exactly that – high performance. Due to the condensed schedule, your full attention to this class is required. Our all inclusive pricing of $1400.00 includes: textbook, online resources, internship uniform, blood pressure cuff, stethoscope, ride time with New Britain EMS and our partner agencies. Students must put down a non-refundable deposit of $500 to be considered “registered” and to have a seat held for them. The balance of your payment will be due on the first day. There are no other payment plan options available due to the short time frame of the class and there is no withdrawal periods or refunds. It is a perfect option for high school and college students. Please note “high performance” means this is an intensive/condensed version of a regular EMT program and requires daily reading and studying.

EMT Practical Skills Review

Individuals who are preparing to take their practical skills certification exam will have additional instruction and oversight from one of our instructors reviewing each skill station that they are required to show competency in in order to pass the state certification exam.

Review includes medical assessment, trauma assessment, CPR/AED, airway management and random skills (joint/bone immobilization, bleeding control/shock).

EMT Training Refresher Courses

In addition to our EMT initial courses we offer EMT refresher courses throughout the year.

The State of Connecticut Office of Emergency Medical Services has adopted the NREMT – National Continued Competency Program (NCCP) for renewal of EMR, EMT, and AEMT. As of January 1, 2020 all certified EMS providers wishing to renew must follow the requirements of this program.

The EMT National Continued Competency Program (NCCP) requires a total of 40 hours of continuing education to renew. The model requires continuing education in three components: (1) a national component, (2) a local/state component, and (3) an individual component. Broken down as follows:

– National Component = 20 hours (up to 7 distributive) of approved continuing education.

– Local/state component = 10 hours (Up to 7 hours distributive) CAPCE or state approved content

– Individual component = 10 hours (Up to 10 distributive) CAPCE or state approved

The New Britain EMS Academy offers EMT refresher curriculums to meet the needs and requirements of those looking to recertify their EMT certification in a one stop, all inclusive solution to your continuing education needs.

NCCP 20 hour In-Class Instructor-Led EMT Training

This course is live and in-class instructor-led continuing education content. This course meets the current 20-hour NREMT NCCP requirements for National Content. Individuals are responsible for the remaining state and individual component content.

For an additional fee you can add an in-class session including skills lab and Heartcode BLS, which meets the 3 hours state component for live in class hours.
