EMT Refresher Courses
The New Britain EMS Academy offers several EMT refresher curriculums to meet the needs and requirements of those looking to recertify their EMT certification. Two course formats are offered:
This course provides recertification that is a State approved refresher with 24 hours online, and a single 8 hour day in classroom consisting of practical skills practice / testing, CPR, and state proctored written exam. The 24 hour online topics satisfy state requirements and are provided by a CAPCE accredited vendor. The skills portion and testing take place at the New Britain EMS Academy. This class does not apply to those wishing to maintain their national registry and is recommended for experienced providers.
Traditional & Blended
This course provides recertification that meets both state approved 30 hour minimum and National Registry requirements for those wishing to maintain their National Registry. This course may be offered as a blended 10 hours online credits with a CAPCE approved outside vendor and 20 classroom hours or it may be offered in a traditional model with all 30 hours in classroom.
All NBEMSA EMT refresher participants will complete a refresher in American Heart Association BLS (CPR/AED) for Healthcare Providers as part of this program. Additional topics covered include Safety and Wellbeing of the EMS Provider, Scene Size-Up, Airway Management, Patient Assessment, Medical Emergencies, Trauma Emergencies, and OB/GYN/Pediatric Emergencies. Skills practiced include airway management, trauma patient assessment, medical patient assessment, immobilization, splinting, and cardiac arrest management.
On the final classroom day participants will complete both a practical and written exam. The written exam will be administered and proctored by the CT DPH OEMS.
